5Good Book for wood design!  Jun 27, 2010
Excellent reference for wood design. Nice and smooth sequence of topics .From the very basics concepts of types of loads to design for combined bending and compression. Very easy to understand and a good amount of examples to clarify the material.

4Good Textbook  Apr 13, 2010
As a large textbook it is full of information, and has assisted me moderately in my structural engineering course. I would reccomend this book from a student's point of view, it really helps you feel like you're working with a real world problem.

5Great Reference!  Apr 06, 2010
This is a great starting reference for wood design! It was recommended to me by a coworker and a teacher. It is great for the workplace and for school. Breyer does a good job of explaining almost everything in clear detail.

One thing I thought was odd about this book was the use of Method 1 for determining wind loads instead of the more common analytical method. I guess even book writer like to take the easy way out sometimes. :)

Also, Breyer tends to go back and forth design glulam and sawn lumber members intermittently through the chapters. I don't quite mind, but I know that it has annoyed others that have used it the book that I know.

5Great review book for the SE II exam  Jan 26, 2010
I am using this book to study for the SE II exam. This is my second time taking the test and I really wish I had bought this book the first time around. It is an awesome reference! It not only teaches all the basics of wood design, it clearly explains shear walls, chords, collectors, and diaphram design. An important part of the SE II exam. Most importantly, it has a great review of the IBC and ASCE Wind and Seismic load requirements, which are applicable to all types of building designs not just wood structures.

5Great book on wood design  Sep 11, 2009
Current with codes, in depth discussions and a lot of examples! It is a great book.
