Researchers, practitioners, instructors, and students all welcomed the first edition of Heat Exchangers: Selection, Rating, and Thermal Design for gathering into one place the essence of the information they need-information formerly scattered throughout the literature. While retaining the basic objectives and popular features of the bestselling first edition, the second edition incorporates significant improvements and modifications.

New in the Second Edition:

  • Introductory material on heat transfer enhancement
  • An application of the Bell-Delaware method
  • New correlation for calculating heat transfer and friction coefficients for chevron-type plates
  • Revision of many of the solved examples and the addition of several new ones

The authors take a systematic approach to the subject of heat exchanger design, focusing on the fundamentals, selection, thermohydraulic design, design processes, and the rating and operational challenges of heat exchangers. It introduces thermal design by describing various types of single-phase and two-phase flow heat exchangers and their applications and demonstrates thermal design and rating processes through worked examples, exercises, and student design projects. Much of the text is devoted to describing and exemplifying double-pipe, shell-and-tube, compact, gasketed-plate heat exchanger types, condensers, and evaporators.

5An excellent guide for using heat exchangers  Mar 23, 2001 By Lin Kuei-Tien
Almost all kinds of heat exchangers have introduced by this title! It contains detail and abundant materials about heat exchangers, like charts, equations, and tables. It also contains the detail process for design of heat exchangers. Besides, the examples mentioned by the title are so clear and easy to understand. Well, the title can easily make junior engineers to handle the work of using and design heat exchangers.

2Not Great  Jul 27, 2007 By Dave from MN
In reference to the two phase heat transfer section, the book is filled with errors. Exponents are missing in certain places and other times they're within parentheses when they should be outside. Equations are given with no reference as to what the variables mean or what units they're in. These errors have caused my hours upon hours of frustration in doing my heat exchanger analysis and design.

    4Very Nice  Jun 01, 2009 By David J. Underwood
This book has a wealth of information in it. The only drawback is the lack of information on heat fins / extended surface HXer's. There is nothing on the subject.

    5Heat Exchangers  Jan 27, 2008 By Robert W. Fuller
I enjoyed the section I was looking for concerning heat exchangers. The book supports a lot of literature I had currently covered and felt confident using the information.
