Worst Textbook EVER Oct 15, 2009
By Jonathan C. Hughes This has got to be the worst textbook I have ever had the displeasure of having to study by. The chapters have no logical flow (the authors sell it as "self-contained chapters"), the problems make no sense, and the answers to the end of chapter products are wrong as often as they are right. I honestly learned a few concepts presented here better from Lehninger's Biochemistry.
If your professor is making you purchase this textbook, reconsider him as a teacher.

Not Worth the Time or Money Dec 09, 2010
By TheUnfocusedOne I had the misfortune of having to use this book for two semesters of physical chemistry during my undergraduate. It lacked significant detail in the mathematics, explination and general theory in all topics. It often would ask you to solve a problem using an equation either glossed over during the chapter or in a way that it never. I understand that the student should be able to manipulate equations themselves, but some of those manipulations where tricky to see on ones own. I think that if someone is really serious about putting in the time needed to really understand physical chemistry (both thermo and quantum) then this is not the book for you. If you want the general gist of p chem without need or desire for understanding any of the underlying math, then yes this might be worth your time. I personally thought this book was poorly written and frustrating to work with.
